Basketball Game Preview: Athens Indians vs. St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers

Athens hasn't had much luck against St. Philip Catholic Central recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Athens Indians will square off against the St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers at 7:00 p.m.

Athens is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They were beaten by Kellogg 73-21.

Meanwhile, St. Philip Catholic Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 54-42 win over the Royals. Given the Fighting Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Royals are ranked 610th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Philip Catholic Central pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Athens was dealt a bruising 69-22 defeat at the hands of St. Philip Catholic Central when the teams last played back in January. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
