Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Wins Going Away Against Bridgeton

While St. Joseph didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Bridgeton Bulldogs on Thursday as they made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Liam Hurley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Hurley was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Cassidy, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Joziah Rivera also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for St. Joseph and bumps their season record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9-1 Bridgeton and 1-7-1 Cape May County Tech. As for Bridgeton, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9-1.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph will head out to challenge Cape May County Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bridgeton, they will welcome Gateway Regional at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
