The Evangelical Christian Sentinels will face off against the Northside Christian Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Evangelical Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Merritt Island on Monday. They fell 5-2 to the Mustangs.
Logan Weber was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northside Christian). They never let Gateway Charter get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Donovan Fox looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Northside Christian is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Brady Jones was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Ashton Cox was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI.
Northside Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Evangelical Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Northside Christian, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Evangelical Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. Evangelical Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Northside Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Evangelical Christian continue to outrun the ball?
Evangelical Christian couldn't quite get it done against Northside Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 as they fell 4-1. Can Evangelical Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
