Football Game Preview: Burroughs Burros vs. Sultana Sultans

Burroughs is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Sultana Sultans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Burroughs and eight for Sultana dating back to last season.

Burroughs' offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Barstow last Friday. They took a blow against the Aztecs, falling 45-0. While losing is never fun, the Burros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 726th, while the Aztecs are ranked 317th).

Meanwhile, Sultana ended up a good deal behind Los Osos last Friday and lost 31-12.

Burroughs will have to keep a close watch on Dell Hester and Joanathan Silva, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sultana's prior game. Hester rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, while Silva picked up 94 receiving yards and one TD. An impressive showing, but Silva really ramped things up playing D: he forced one fumble and made nine total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.

Burroughs' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Sultana, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Burroughs lost to Sultana on the road by a decisive 19-5 margin when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Burros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
