Basketball Recap: Curtis Baptist's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Curtis Baptist has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to the Alleluia Community Angels at home by a 43-29 margin on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Crusaders came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Angels are ranked 236th).

When it comes to explaining why Curtis Baptist lost, don't look at Maci Butler. Despite the final result, she posted eight points and 11 rebounds. Butler is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played. Jaliyah Terry was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Curtis Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Alleluia Community found their leader in sophomore Alley McBride, who had 21 points. Another player making a difference was Reese Janik, who put up eight points.

Curtis Baptist's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2. As for Alleluia Community, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.

Curtis Baptist didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-10 win against Community Christian Academy on the 12th. As for Alleluia Community, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-42 victory against Faith Baptist Christian Academy on the 13th.
