Baseball Recap: Skyline Takes a Loss

Skyline extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-18 in the process. They came up short against the Spearville Lancers, falling 18-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Owen Flora was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Gannon Tucker was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

As for Spearville, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-5. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Spearville's side, Levi Zimmerman looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Zimmerman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aydin Ruiz was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (four). Another player making a difference was Austin Ruiz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

As of now, neither Skyline nor Spearville have any future games scheduled.
