Softball Recap: Polk County Wildcats vs. Copper Basin Cougars
Polk County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 5-1 to the Copper Basin Cougars. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Mallie Evans put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zoie Hatcher, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Polk County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Copper Basin, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Coming up, Polk County will head out to face off against Tellico Plains at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Copper Basin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McMinn Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
