Basketball Recap: Gibbs Eagles vs. Cumberland Gap Panthers
The Gibbs Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Cumberland Gap at home to the tune of 94-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Zack Turner, who went 6 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 7 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Gibbs' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamen Shown, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Cumberland Gap's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Harris, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kolton Goins was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds.
Gibbs' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-12. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Cumberland Gap, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbs and the Highlanders will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Scott knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge.
