Baseball Game Preview: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Faith Christian Patriots

Halifax Academy is 1-9 against Faith Christian since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Vikings will face off against the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Halifax Academy will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Ridgecroft on Friday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 11-5 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Landon Peoples made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Halifax Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 2-5 otherwise. Peoples was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Connor Hammack was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Brighton Owens also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Faith Christian won against Harrells Christian Academy on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Patriots walked away with a 7-4 win over John Paul II Catholic. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won three matches in a row.

The team relied heavily on Dylan Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and one triple. Blayde Hinton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Faith Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Halifax Academy, their record now sits at 4-6.

Halifax Academy suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Faith Christian when the teams last played back in March. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
