Basketball Recap: Monte Vista Comes Up Short

Monte Vista was the 41-20 winner over Ignacio when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Monte Vista Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 28-27 to the Ignacio Bobcats.

Monte Vista's loss came despite strong showings from Hannah Henderhan and Daylin Castro. Henderhan posted five points and seven boards, while Castro earned four points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Monte Vista is 2-1 when Castro posts ten or more rebounds, but 9-10 otherwise.

Even though they lost, Monte Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Ignacio can attribute much of their success to Victoria Brown, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in rebounds.

Monte Vista has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. Ignacio's win bumped their record up to 8-13.

Monte Vista will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Yuma on March 7th. As for Ignacio, they have already played their next matchup, a 52-22 loss against Centauri on the 25th.
