Baseball Recap: Bruce Takes a Loss

Bruce came into this matchup off a tough 13-run defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Water Valley Blue Devils by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Cole Clark put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Bruce's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't).

Clark wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayden McCormick, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, McCormick posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

Bruce's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Water Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.

While Bruce had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
