Softball Game Preview: Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds vs. Shiocton Chiefs

Iola-Scandinavia has gone 8-2 against Shiocton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Thunderbirds will face off against the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. Shiocton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Iola-Scandinavia, who comes in off a win.

Iola-Scandinavia barely beat St. Mary Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Thunderbirds were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Zephyrs on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Rayanne Clendenning spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maya Munoz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Printz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Shiocton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Manawa on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Iola-Scandinavia moved to 9-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Shiocton, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.
