Polytech faced Smyrna in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-1. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ryan Zimmerman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Hermes Rodriguez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was William Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Polytech is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Smyrna, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Coincidentally, Polytech and Smyrna will both be playing Milford the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Buccaneers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
