Normal Community proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 11) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Normal University Pioneers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Ironmen also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.
Anna Grotbo was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery Head was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.
Normal Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Normal Community's record is now 17-13. As for Normal University, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-10.
Coming up, Normal Community will take on Peoria at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.6 runs per game on average), something the Ironmen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Normal University, they will square off against Prairie Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
