Preview: Morton Ranch Mavericks vs. Mayde Creek Rams
Morton Ranch has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Mayde Creek Rams at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Two weeks ago, Morton Ranch was the victim of a tough 41-20 defeat at the hands of Tompkins. While losing is never fun, Morton Ranch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 619th, while Tompkins is ranked 193rd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Michael Gerald, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 153 yards and a touchdown. Martavian Hill was another key contributor, gaining 111 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mayde Creek took a serious blow against Tompkins on Friday, falling 45-16. Mayde Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-3.
Despite the defeat, Mayde Creek saw an underclassman step up: Christian Bradford rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Morton Ranch's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.4 points per game. As for Mayde Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Everything came up roses for Morton Ranch against Mayde Creek in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 47-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morton Ranch since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
