Soccer Game Preview: McNeil vs. Cedar Ridge

The McNeil Mavericks will face off against the Cedar Ridge Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Friday, McNeil didn't have quite enough to beat Vista Ridge and fell 2-1. The Mavericks haven't had much luck with the Rangers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

McNeil's goal came courtesy of Qiana Romero, who's now up to seven this season.

Meanwhile, Cedar Ridge had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Rangers get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Give the Raiders' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Emma Nilson, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Cedar Ridge squad sat out for Tuesday's matchup. With Nilson sitting this one out, Liesel Tietimier got some extra time on the pitch (80 vs. her season average of 57.1).

Cedar Ridge pushed their record up to 8-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for McNeil, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
