Softball Recap: Dakota Comes Up Short

Dakota was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Utica Ford Falcons. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 12-2.

Maddie Guthrie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Dakota saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annika Sylver, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Kiley Phelan, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Dakota's loss dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Utica Ford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5-1 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Dakota beat Utica Ford by a score of 10-0 later that day.
