Football Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Wagner Thunderbirds

New Braunfels is a perfect 6-0 against Wagner since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Unicorns will take on the Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. Wagner took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on New Braunfels, who comes in off a win.

New Braunfels took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Seguin 49-0. The contest marked the Unicorns' most dominant victory of the season.

LEVI GOLLA had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 193 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 42 yards and one score. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (149.3). BROCK STEWART was another key player, rushing for 77 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Braunfels was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wagner lost 45-22 to Boerne-Champion on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while the Chargers are ranked 233rd).

New Braunfels' win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Wagner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Everything came up roses for New Braunfels against Wagner in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 41-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Thunderbirds' William Reynolds, who rushed for 149 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
