Preview: Northwest Halifax Vikings vs. Wilson Prep Tigers
Northwest Halifax is 2-7 against Wilson Prep since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northwest Halifax Vikings will be home for the holidays to greet the Wilson Prep Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northwest Halifax has six straight victories, Wilson Prep has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Northwest Halifax has not done well against Northampton County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Northwest Halifax walked away with a 51-39 win over Northampton County. Given Northwest Halifax's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Northampton County is ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northwest Halifax's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camaya Adkins led the charge by scoring 18 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Adkins has scored at least 25% of Northwest Halifax's points. Keyara Rook was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Wilson Prep had to suffer through a rough 61-33 loss at the hands of North Edgecombe.
Northwest Halifax pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for Wilson Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Everything came up roses for Northwest Halifax against Wilson Prep in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 69-38 win. Does Northwest Halifax have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wilson Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
