Recap: Claremont Wolfpack vs. Workman Lobos
On Monday, Claremont ended up a good deal behind Workman and lost 68-54. Even though they lost, Claremont's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite the defeat, Claremont saw an underclassman step up: Jaden Cardenas dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. The match was Cardenas' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugo Montejo, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Workman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaron Hernandez, who scored 20 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Hernandez has scored at least 25% of Workman's points. Luis Saenz was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Claremont bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Workman, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4.
Claremont will be playing in front of their home fans against Los Osos at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Los Osos presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Claremont in California (Los Osos is ranked 87th, while Claremont is ranked 1058th). As for Workman, they will head out on the road to face off against Garden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Garden Grove is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
