Sarasota and Riverview Sarasota are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Sailors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Sarasota has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Sarasota is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Port Charlotte just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Sarasota got a good showing from Cesar Garmendia, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Garmendia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sarasota saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Svenson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Riverview Sarasota owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top against Naples by a score of 5-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Riverview Sarasota also got a great performance from Mason Peluso as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, Peluso posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Andrew Rhymestine was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a home run, which was his first of the season. Alastair Simonson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Riverview Sarasota's win bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Sarasota, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-5-1.
Sarasota took their victory against Riverview Sarasota in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Sailors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
