The Nativity BVM Green Wave will face off against Marian Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nativity BVM has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with seven straight defeats, while Marian Catholic will come in with five straight victories.
On Monday, Nativity BVM came up short against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional and fell 13-10. Even if the Green Wave couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Nativity BVM got a massive performance out of Anna Jansson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauren Clark, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Marian Catholic made easy work of Mahanoy Area on Monday and carried off a 14-6 victory. The result was nothing new for Marian Catholic, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Emily Upanavage was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Upanavage was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Malina Letcher and Hailey Treskolasky did most of the damage at the plate: Letcher went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Treskolasky went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Danica Karlick was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Marian Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Marian Catholic pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nativity BVM, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
