Baseball Recap: Whiting Takes a Loss

Whiting extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They came up short against the Highland Trojans, falling 6-0. If the Oilers were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Whiting saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Maley, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Highland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games.

On Highland's side, the team relied heavily on Cash Washick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Washick has become a key player for the Trojans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Jakob Burleson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Whiting will welcome Merrillville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Highland, they are taking a road trip to take on Hanover Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
