Baseball Game Preview: North Reading Hornets vs. Stoneham Spartans

The North Reading Hornets will challenge the Stoneham Spartans at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. North Reading will be strutting in after a win while Stoneham will be coming in after a loss.

North Reading's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Newburyport with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Hornets have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Stoneham and Melrose had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Spartans fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Red Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

North Reading's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Stoneham, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
