After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grafton, Northeastern was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They really took it to the Holmes Aces for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-34 victory. The Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Northeastern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cierra Jones, who posted 14 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in points. Jada Simpson was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to six steals and five assists.
Northeastern was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holmes only posted eight assists.
Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Chloe Chappell, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 17 points and four steals. That was a full 50% of Holmes' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamonni Mathews, who scored four points and six boards.
Northeastern's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-4. As for Holmes, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
Northeastern wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-16 win against Camden County on the 29th. Holmes has also already played their next matchup, a 56-43 victory against Bear Grass Charter on the 29th.
