Baseball Game Preview: Serra Catholic Eagles vs. Belle Vernon Leopards

The Serra Catholic Eagles will face off against the Belle Vernon Leopards at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Serra Catholic 2.2, Belle Vernon 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

If Serra Catholic beats Belle Vernon with 15 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Eagles' way against Sewickley Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-3 win. Tyler Skaggs was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Dumbroski, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sewickley Academy only managed seven hits.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Belle Vernon and West Mifflin, and West Mifflin kept the tradition alive. The Leopards fell just short of the Titans by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. The Leopards' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Alonzo Wade was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double was his first of the season.

Serra Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Belle Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
