Baseball Recap: Xavier Prep Takes a Loss

Xavier Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Palm Springs on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 3-2. The Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

Nathan Legarreta made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run. Xavier Prep is 3-1 when Legarreta posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-12 otherwise.

Xavier Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Palm Springs, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-12 and their overall record up to 8-18.

Xavier Prep and Palm Springs could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Saints (ranked 458th) will meet La Quinta (ranked 181st) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Palm Springs will take on Palm Desert at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (841 vs. 60).
