Basketball Recap: St. Bede Falls Despite Big Games from Ashlyn Ehm and Lili Mcclain

St. Bede was the 51-37 winner over Bureau Valley when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Bede Bruins fell just short of the Bureau Valley Storm by a score of 43-41 on Saturday. The Bruins were up 19-4 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

St. Bede's loss came despite strong showings from Lili McClain and Ashlyn Ehm. McClain posted 21 points and five rebounds, while Ehm almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards. Ehm has become a key player for St. Bede: the team is 14-6 when she posts at least eight boards, but 3-5 otherwise. Savannah Bray was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, St. Bede smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bureau Valley only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Libby Endress, who went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooke Helms, who earned six points and five assists.

St. Bede's loss dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Bureau Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-17.

St. Bede wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-46 defeat against Seneca on the 3rd. As for Bureau Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-36 loss against Annawan on the 3rd.
