Basketball Recap: Cuthbertson Cavaliers vs. Sun Valley Spartans
Even though the Sun Valley Spartans scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the Cuthbertson Cavaliers still came out on top. Cuthbertson sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-56 win over the Spartans. This was payback for Cuthbertson, who suffered a 64-46 loss the last time these two teams met.
Cuthbertson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Johnson, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Mundy, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Sun Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyra Robinson, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals. Robinson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoe Bradley, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuthbertson only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Cuthbertson's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Sun Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.
Cuthbertson is on the road again on Friday and plays the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Marvin Ridge will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Sun Valley will take on the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
