Baseball Game Preview: St. Rita Mustangs vs. Sandburg Eagles

The St. Rita Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Sandburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Rita is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

St. Rita came out on top against Marian Catholic on Sunday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Mustangs took their game against the Spartans 7-4. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

Peyton Panozzo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Evan Blake was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Sandburg came up short against Lincoln-Way East on Wednesday, falling 11-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sandburg's loss dropped their record down to 20-11. As for St. Rita, their record is now 14-18.

St. Rita suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Sandburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
