Volleyball Recap: Redwood Takes a Loss

Redwood and Monta Vista squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Redwood had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Matadors by a score of 3-2. If the Giants were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Matadors when the teams met back in March of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Redwood took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12.

Despite the loss, Redwood still got an impressive performance from Beckett Shewey, who hit 80.9% for 40 kills and five blocks and two aces. Shewey has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 24 times he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Redwood and nudges their season record down to 26-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 24-7 International (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72% over those games). As for Monta Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-13 record this season.

Redwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Monta Vista, they will head out to face off against International at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Matadors surely won't give up without a fight.
