Softball Recap: Austin Snags 13th Victory in Last 16 Games

Austin had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt James Clemens on Tuesday. The Black Bears never let the Jets get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Black Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.

Grace Lamb made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 matchups.

In other batting news, Austin got a massive performance out of Arden Breedlove, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Breedlove has posted over her last 13 games. Amiya Garth was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Austin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Austin is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-12-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for James Clemens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-21-2 record this season.

Austin will welcome Bob Jones at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Black Bears are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for James Clemens, they are taking a road trip to square off against East Limestone at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
