Softball Recap: Shelbyville Rams vs. Newton Eagles
Shelbyville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat. They came up short against the Newton Eagles, falling 16-5. The Rams were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.
Jasmine Wildman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and 13 unearned) runs on 14 hits. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Alex Jokisch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Aylah Logan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Shelbyville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Newton, their win bumped their record up to 21-2.
Coming up, Shelbyville will head out to challenge Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Newton, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Charleston at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
