Softball Recap: Narraguagus Knights vs. Washington Academy Raiders

If Narraguagus was feeling good off their 23-3 takedown of Calais last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Narraguagus Knights fell just short of the Washington Academy Raiders by a score of 4-2 on Friday. Narraguagus was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Washington Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Natalie Stanwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Narraguagus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cailin Chase, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

On Washington Academy's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Bella Cirone gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Cirone has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Sadie Story was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple, and an RBI.

Narraguagus' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Washington Academy, the victory for them keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Narraguagus will face off against Jonesport-Beals at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Narraguagus is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road dating back to last season. As for Washington Academy, they will square off against George Stevens Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Washington Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
