Buckingham has gone 8-2 against Lunenburg Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Knights will challenge the Chargers at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Buckingham sitting on nine straight victories and Lunenburg Central on four.
On Tuesday, Buckingham made easy work of Amelia County and carried off a 16-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kayne Wooten was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ethan Walter and Avery Schaeffer did most of the damage at the plate: Walter got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Schaeffer went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Schaeffer a new career-high. Ty Wilkerson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Buckingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Lunenburg Central never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Southampton 10-0. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Buckingham's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lunenburg Central, their record is now 7-1.
Everything went Buckingham's way against Lunenburg Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Buckingham made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
