Basketball Recap: Riverwalk Academy Lions vs. McBee Panthers
Riverwalk Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 109-25 loss at the hands of the McBee Panthers. The Lions lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 85-39 score last time.
Riverwalk Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Austin Thurman, who posted seven points and ten boards. Jaxon Scarbrough also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.
McBee was led to victory by Jakari Holloman and Tyrek Wright. Holloman almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds, while Wright dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 assists. The dominant performance also gave Holloman a new career-high in steals (seven). Another player making a difference was Hayden Griggs, who made all 7 shots he took to post 16 points and eight boards.
Riverwalk Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for McBee, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Riverwalk Academy has already played their next contest, a 42-24 win against Governor's School for Science & Math on the 14th. As for McBee, they will square off against Lee Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. McBee knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Lee Central likes a good challenge.
