NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Senior quarterback Turner Baty continued his impressive play as a newcomer to New Canaan’s spread offense when he topped 300 yards passing for the second consecutive game and led the Rams to a 35-25 homecoming victory over the St. Joseph Cadets on Saturday at Dunning Field.

The victory kept New Canaan (6-0) undefeated, and the Rams now lead the FCIAC in the power point standings, just ahead of Staples, which is also 6-0. St. Joseph and Greenwich, which lost to Bridgeport Central, 14-13 this week, fell from the ranks of the unbeatens and are now 5-1.

One week after throwing for 367 yards against Seymour, Baty, who transferred to NCHS during the preseason, completed 23-of-36 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Cadets.

Baty threw TD passes of 44 yards to senior co-captain Cody Newton, 43 yards to senior Kevin Macari and 4 yards to junior Jimmy Joe Granito.

The Rams led 21-12 at halftime, but Baty connected with Macari and Granito in the final 2:02 of the third quarter to put the game out of reach at 35-12.

St. Joe’s scored twice in the fourth quarter, the final TD coming on a 60-yard fumble return by Pat Mulligan with 2:11 to play.

New Canaan had another huge game from Newton, who caught eight passes for 161 yards and a TD, giving him 685 yards receiving and four TDs this fall.

Macari, who played with a cast on his right hand due to a broken thumb, caught four passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

For St. Joseph, junior fullback Tyler Matakevich had 18 rushes for 70 yards and two TDs, and caught six passes for 63 yards, while junior QB Joe Della Vecchia had 136 yards and one TD passing.
