The Fort Meade Miners will face off against the Lake Gibson Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Lake Gibson will be up against a hot Fort Meade team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Fort Meade blew past Lakeland Christian 11-1 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Miners have won by exactly ten runs.
Fort Meade got a great performance from Ariel Ramirez as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Ramirez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Fort Meade let Makayla Deleon and Kenya Faulk run wild. Deleon scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Faulk went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Faulk has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailynn Johnson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Fort Meade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Gibson). They never let Discovery get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Braves brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.
Andrea Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Kylie Vazquez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lily Harwell, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Fort Meade pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Gibson, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Both Fort Meade and Lake Gibson just can't seem to miss. Fort Meade has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Lake Gibson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Fort Meade's way against Lake Gibson in their previous meeting back in February, as Fort Meade made off with a 9-3 win. Does Fort Meade have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Gibson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
