Baseball Recap: Central Magnet Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Central Magnet ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Franklin County Rebels 4-3. This was payback for Central Magnet, who suffered a 6-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Collin Wind tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Central Magnet saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mitchell Coons, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Coons is becoming a predictor of Central Magnet's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't).

Central Magnet's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 8-9. As for Franklin County, they dropped their record down to 7-12 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Central Magnet will have a chance to go back-to-back against Franklin County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
