Softball Game Preview: Lubbock Christian Eagles vs. Lockney Longhorns

The Lubbock Christian Eagles will face off against the Lockney Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lubbock Christian will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Everything went Lubbock Christian's way against Temple Christian as they made off with a 17-3 victory. The result was nothing new for Lubbock Christian, who have now won 15 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lockney never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Quanah with a sharp 17-0 win. Considering the Longhorns' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Madison Marmolejo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Siya Salazar was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Jolene Guererro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Lubbock Christian pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lockney, their victory bumped their record up to 7-15.

Lubbock Christian took their win against Lockney in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
