Softball Recap: Serena Huskers vs. Aurora Christian Eagles

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Marquette, Serena was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Aurora Christian Eagles a 15-0 shutout. The Huskers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jenna Setchell and Maddie Glade were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Setchell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Glade tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Setchell posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Setchell went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Glade went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Maddie Young was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was RayElle Brennan, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Serena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aurora Christian only posted an OBP of .167.

Serena now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Aurora Christian, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serena is headed away from home for the first time to square off against St. Bede at 4:15 a.m. on Friday. As for Aurora Christian, they will face off against Parkview Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
