Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Piles Up the Points Against Gaston Day

Covenant Day had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Gaston Day Spartans 54-17. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Covenant Day was led to victory by Avery Houseton and Charlotte Hall. Houseton went 6 for 9 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven steals and six assists, while Hall went 6 for 11 on her way to 13 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Hall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Allen, who posted eight points.

Covenant Day's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Gaston Day, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Covenant Day and Gaston Day could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Covenant Day (ranked 150th) will meet Lab University Prep National (ranked tenth) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gaston Day (ranked 421st) will meet Ambassador Christian School (ranked 144th) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
