Recap: West Brunswick Trojans vs. Topsail Pirates
The West Brunswick Trojans struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Topsail Pirates had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. West Brunswick took a 57-40 bruising from Topsail. West Brunswick has not had much luck with Topsail recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
West Brunswick's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ja'kya Johnson, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Brooklyn Coble who scored nine points along with three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Topsail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emmy Clark led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six steals. Rhianna Garmendiz was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
West Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Topsail, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
West Brunswick has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Ashley at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. Hopefully Ashley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. Topsail's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hoggard at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. Hoggard is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.8 points per game.
