Softball Recap: Fern Creek Tigers vs. DuPont Manual Crimsons
Fern Creek had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 15-18 to make it four. They lost 17-6 to the DuPont Manual Crimsons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.
Lakelyn Maloney stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Karley Hess, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
As for DuPont Manual, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-11. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.
On DuPont Manual's side, Hailey Kincaid made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Kincaid has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, DuPont Manual got a massive performance out of Bella Newell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Newell has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bailey Fetcher, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Looking ahead, Fern Creek will head out to take on Elizabethtown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for DuPont Manual, they will challenge Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
