Preview: St. Mary's Academy Wildcats vs. The Academy Wildcats
The St. Mary's Academy Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against The Academy Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Mary's Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, St. Mary's Academy suffered a tough 47-24 defeat at the hands of Colorado Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Mary's Academy in their matchups with Colorado Academy: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, St. Mary's Academy got a solid performance out of Emily Rodriguez, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and eight blocks. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below two blocks for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Aleena Nauman, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, The Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. The game between them and Jefferson Academy wasn't particularly close, with The Academy falling 50-31.
St. Mary's Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for The Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-15 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
St. Mary's Academy strolled past The Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 55-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Mary's Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
