West Warwick faced Burrillville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Wizards won by a run and slipped past the Broncos 3-2. For the Wizards, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 victory the Broncos walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2019.

Anthony Burt tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joe Riviera, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Luke Gallo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Warwick is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Burrillville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Coming up, West Warwick will challenge Scituate at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Wizards' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burrillville, they will take on North Providence at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
