Softball Recap: Waterloo Comes Up Short

Waterloo had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it seven. They lost 10-4 to the Deerfield Demons. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 7-5 to the Demons when the teams met back in June of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Deerfield, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-4. The result was nothing new for the Demons, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Deerfield's part, Sydney Kind spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Kind has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rowan Lasack and Lily Betthauser did most of the damage at the plate: Lasack went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Betthauser went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Riley Fisher, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Waterloo wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Cambridge on the 21st. As for Deerfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Williams Bay on the 21st.
