Baseball Recap: Proviso West's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Proviso West ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Proviso East Pirates 9-8. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Proviso West got a great performance from Jayden Caston as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 7.1 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Caston a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Logan Komperda was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Loera, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Proviso West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Proviso West's victory bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Proviso East, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.

Proviso West and Proviso East could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Panthers will face off against Oak Park-River Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (421 vs. 53). Meanwhile, Proviso East (ranked 536th) will meet Hinsdale Central (ranked 154th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
