League recap: Roach throws longest pass in league this season for UMS-Wright Prep

4A Region 1 recap September 10, 2013

Gunner Roach and Jaylon Jones provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Hillcrest. The connection went for 56 yards, the longest such play in 4A Region 1 this season.

Andalusia's Michael McCalman rumbled for the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Monroe County last week. McCalman ran for 70 yards on the play and finished with 173 on the day as his team beat the Tigers.

UMS-Wright Prep's dynamic duo of Roach and Jones proved to be unstoppable against the Jaguars, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roach threw for 186 yards and Jones had 109 yards receiving. Christian Pearsall helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 53 yards.

The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Roach and Jones proved tough for Hillcrest to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

McCalman was the best running back in the league this week. Derrick Dorsey also contributed to the rushing game with 127 yards on the ground.

Roach put up the best numbers through the air as UMS-Wright Prep beat the Jaguars.

Jones was the best receiver in 4A Region 1 this week as Terry Curtis' team defeated Hillcrest.

McCalman was a passing and rushing force as Andalusia defeated Monroe County. McCalman's key target this week was Devante Jackson, who caught 5 passes for 60 yards.

The Bulldogs' offense has scored 66 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Thomasville has allowed only 19 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when UMS-Wright Prep takes on the Tigers. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in third, while Thomasville is in first.

Clarke County was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Escambia County 40-12.
