Football Recap: Marshall Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Marshall lost against Richland County back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lions had to suffer through a 57-19 loss at the hands of the Tigers. The loss was the Lions' first of the season.

When it comes to explaining why Marshall lost, don't look at Lucca Giannavola. Despite the final result, he rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Giannavola is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season.

Richland County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavyn Cothern led the charge by rushing for 117 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes. Another player making a difference was Xavier Owusu-Gyan, who rushed for 182 yards and one score while picking up 10.1 yards per carry.

Having lost for the first time this season, Marshall fell to 3-1. As for Richland County, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coming up, Marshall will challenge Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Maroons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Richland County, they will venture away from home to face off against Newton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
